Just as Vijay Sethupathi Thalaivan Thalaivi became a hit and became his biggest grosser, a twitter post allges that the actor had been using girls promising roles and also money. I shared that tweet out of frustration and to vent. Didn’t expect it to get this much attention. Getting too many enquiries about it now. Out of concern for her privacy and wellbeing I’ve decided to take it down. Hope that’s respected.

An X user (Formerly Twitter) Ramya Mohan has accused Vijay Sethupathi of serious casting couch and drug allegations. In a thread on Twitter, the woman wrote that casting couch and drug abuse was not a joke, and further went on to claim a that women from media was pushed into this world against her consent, and that she was in rehabilitation now.

The user then accused Vijay Sethupathi of offering her 2 lakhs for various kinds of favours and 50 thousands for “drives” and claimed that the actor acts like a “saint on social media”. The user also claimed that Vijay Sethupathi has used the woman in question for many years, and that drug nexus was real. She added that the actor’s image had been whitewashed in the media. Ramya Mohan claimed that there were many women, and blamed some people for questioning the victims everytime. She also wrote that the family was shocked to learn this through the woman’s diary and phone chats.

Su From So, a Kannada horror-comedy drama produced by Raj B Shetty under Lighter Buddha Films and directed by JP Thumminad, is rewriting box office rules. What began with a single premiere in Mangaluru, followed by Shivamogga and Mysuru, quickly snowballed into 28 preview shows across Karnataka before its theatrical release on July 25.

Since then, the film has been unstoppable. With packed houses and roaring footfalls from all corners of the state, Su From So has sold over 3.80 lakh tickets in just three days. Remarkably, it became the first Kannada film in ages to secure 72 early morning shows on a Sunday, all running to full houses—even on weekdays.

In a time when Kannada cinema was witnessing a lull, Su From So emerged as a much-needed silver lining. The team has managed to gross ₹7 crore in just three days, purely based on strong word of mouth.

Even more interesting is the demand, it’s rare to see a film expanding its shows every day and yet cinema-goers continue to struggle to find tickets. Relying solely on its content, Su From So is now breaking beyond Karnataka's borders.

Demand across South Indian languages, to release overseas on August 1

On August 1, the film will release in Kerala under the same title. Supported by Dulquer Salmaan, the distribution will be handled by his Wayfarer Films, ensuring a wide release across the state. The film is also headed north as Anil Thadani's AA Films, known for releasing South Indian giants like KantaraKGF, and Pushpa, will distribute the Kannada version of Su From So across North India.

Cities like Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Punjab are already screening limited shows, which are running to packed houses. There’s now growing demand for Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions, with dubbing currently in progress. Meanwhile, global audiences can gear up for the international release. Through Phars Film, Su From So is set to release in the USA, Australia, Dubai, and other international markets starting August 1.

With Thalaivan- Thalaivi a HIt ,Tamil audience tastes show a pattern

Thalaivan Thalaivi achieved break even in day 3 itself

Day 1 - 6 crores

Day 2 - 10 crores

Day 3 - 10 crores

Total - 26 crores in 3 days.

Let’s look at them. See if you can spot a pattern.

1.     Kudumbasthan - A lower-middle-class man fights to pay off debts and rebuild his social life, discovering strength in vulnerability.

2.     Maaman - An uncle-nephew bond is tested when the uncle’s new wife feels sidelined, leading to emotional tension within the family.

3.     Tourist Family - A quirky Sri Lankan immigrant family survives through kindness, slowly transforming the lives of those around them.

4.     3HBK - A middle-class family chases their dream of owning a home in the city, facing setbacks that ultimately bring them closer.

5.     Paranthu Po - A reluctant father and his free-spirited son accidentally go on a road trip, rediscovering their bond and inner peace.

6.     Thalaivan Thalaivi - A turbulent couple confronts their emotional differences, only to build a deeper, more intense relationship through shared struggle.

So what do all these stories have in common?

  • They’re all deeply rooted, and driven purely by content.
  • They don’t rely on massive budgets or huge star casts, instead caring about content and engagement value.
  • They don’t scream to be seen- they invite you in with a strong USP.

All six of these films were highly profitable, despite all of them being flawed (Barring Paranthu Po). They prove one thing clearly:

  • To truly satisfy an audience, you don’t need to commercialize rooted stories.
  • You need emotional value, a fresh-enough script, and a team that cares.

“The more rooted a film is, the further it will reach.”

Each of these films stays within its world and creates something beautiful out of emotional journeys and everyday struggles. After so many larger-than-life tales, it feels refreshing to see characters who may not live like us, but who feel like us. And that emotional connection is everything.

In fact, these kinds of films are now three times more popular than they were just a couple of years ago. Producers denied Oh My Kadavule right away simply because it’s a love story and not an action thriller.

Now do not think that Tamil audience are roting for Family dramas and so start producing family dramas. We have seen family dramas fall by the side in this year itself.

For an action - romance to click root the story in emotion that connect with audience. Keep aside the thought that only if you treat a subject from a commercial angle, will audience watch it.

Mohanlal - Manikandan in Thiagarajan Kumararaja film / Exciting Diwali Clash / Fahadh to retire as cab Driver

Thiagarajan Kumararaja Director of Aranya Kaandam, Super Deluxe, Modern Love Chennai is said to have narrated a script to Mohanlal and Manikandan and locked them . It might start off in 2025  end or early 2026. His last release was in 2023. Aranya Kaandam  got the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director for Kumararaja.

Fahadh Faasil has once again said that after retirement he plans to settle down in Barcelona and be a Uber driver. He wants to drive people across Spain. Not just drive them around . “Absolutely. We were in Barcelona a few months ago. It'll only happen after people are done with me, you know? Jokes apart, just to drive someone from one place to another, witnessing someone's destination—I think that's a beautiful thing. I still do that every time I get a chance. Not just driving, you engage in things you love, be it a game or sport or watching TV,” Fahadh shared, describing the serenity he finds in the simplicity of the idea. He said now to Hollywood Reporter. Interestingly, this isn't the first time the Joji actor has spoken about such a plan. In a 2020 interview with The Indian Express, he had mentioned the same retirement goal, even highlighting that it’s something he has discussed and planned with his actress-wife Nazriya Nazim. “As of now, there is nothing else that I would enjoy doing other than being an Uber driver. I tell my wife that as a retirement plan, I wish to move to Barcelona and drive people across Spain. She loves this plan,” he had said then.

His Tamil film Mareesan with Vadivelu has been released. On the professional front, Fahadh Faasil is far from retirement. The actor is currently busy with a line-up of high-profile projects, including Odum Kuthira Chadum KuthiraDon’t Trouble The TroubleKarate Chandran, and Patriot, among others.

So this poster firstly clears the rumor that the film is getting postponed, and it is in fact a “Dude Diwali Blast”. This means it will clash with Bison and Karrupu.

Back to back Sai Abhyankar Musicals for Diwali. Interesting debut.

Secondly, it confirmed the working crew members of the team, on the left, as well as their already locked massive deal with Netflix.

Now we hear that Karuppu has too signed with Netflix. Two films committed to one OTT platform releasing on same date is usually avoided. Si speculation was that DUDE will get postponed but not so. As far as LIK is concerned ilm will instead, be locking in the February 2026 Valentines Day Date, and will be releasing a glimpse video confirming this on August 1st, like stated at the bottom of the poster of LIK.

Coolie Trailor to please Hindi Audience - Vivek film in limbo / Dhanush Kuberaa globally trending

On August 1` the trailor of Coolie is coming out and this is only to please PEN the Hindi distributor. Lokesh wanted to skip a trailor as he felt it could either give away the plot or could send wrong expectations. Instead he wanted only a promo of 15 seconds released in intervals. PEN felt otherwise as Bollywood promotions thrive on trailors and they have a selfish reason for it, They want Aamir Khan in it. Non Tamil actors apart from Nagarjuna who is main villain, has Upendra-Shoubin. Aamir has close to `15 minutes screen time. Finally a trailor is ready.

Rajini is yet to take call on Vivek Athreya movie. It is very tempting but he is getting pressure from certain people no tto accept Mythri or Telugu director. Mythri is terribly pissed off with Vignesh Sivan for postponing LIK to Feb 2026 . Mythri planned Dude for Feb 2026 now will be slotting it somewhere date . This has happened twice now earlier was Vidaamuyarchi- GBU and are not keen to work with Tamil Directors anymore.

While Rajinikanth is in two minds about Mythiri and Vivek, Dhanush has decided to not work with Shekar Kammula after Kubera response in Tamil. He is got a negative feedback from the Tamil OTT audience . However the film is globally trending on Amazon Prime. As of now, Kuberaa is placed on the 8th spot on Amazon Prime Video’s global top ten movies list, according to FlixPatrol. Leading the chart is the action-comedy Heads of State, starring Idris Elba, John Cena, and Priyanka Chopra, followed by the action thriller The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal in the lead roles. Other titles ahead of Kuberaa include Anthony Mackie’s dystopian flick Elevation, Jason Statham’s A Working Man, and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, among other films. An Indian film trending globally on a major streaming platform like Amazon Prime Video is not something which happens very often

The Tamil box office performance of the movie "Kuberaa" was underwhelming, despite the film's overall success.

Here's a summary of its performance:

  • The film opened with a collection of ₹4.5 crore on the first day in Tamil.
  • While the initial collections were strong, the momentum did not sustain, and the box office graph began to decline steeply in the days that followed.
  • The total collection in Tamil Nadu reached approximately ₹18 crores, with the final tally unlikely to surpass ₹20 crores.
  • The Tamil Nadu distribution rights were sold for ₹18 crores.
  • Projections suggest losses of up to 40-50% on the investment in the Tamil Nadu market.
  • Director Sekhar Kammula reportedly expressed surprise and disappointment at the film's underperformance in Tamil Nadu, noting that he believed the subject matter had more Tamil sensibilities and featured Dhanush, a major star in the region.
