Tamil film 'Angammal' has won Best Film at the 2025 edition of the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), Geetha Kailasam, who is renowned filmmaker K Balachander’s daughter-in-law, was the first choice for the role of Angammal. “We chose Geetha Kailasam after watching her performance in Navarasa, Sarpatta Parambarai and Natchathiram Nagargiradhu,” Director Radhakrishnan said. “She was very natural, and the screen presence she commanded was really impressive in all her above performances.”. Radhakrishnan’s second feature after the Malayalam-language Ave Maria (2018) is set in the mid-1990s. Angammal is based on acclaimed Tamil writer Perumal Murugan’s short story Kodithuni.

 Vipin Radhakrishnan's sophomore directorial venture follows a son's attempts at making his free spirited mother wear a blouse. Set against a rural backdrop in Tamil Nadu, the story does a pretty good job at establishing the dynamic between Angammal and Pavalam, the different life that her son wishes to lead and disgusted of the old ways in his village. Driven by the excuse of his girlfriend's family visit for an arranged love marriage proposal, the story mostly follows the rift that occurs between the mother and son as the former sticks on to what she desires to wear.

Meenakshi Jayan has won the Best Actress award in the Asian New Talent category at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) Golden Goblet Awards. She was honoured for her role in the Malayalam film Victoria, which was also the only Indian film selected for competition at this year’s festival, which concluded on Sunday. Directed by debutant Sivaranjini J, Victoria tells the story of a young beautician from Angamaly, a small town in Kerala, who is planning to run away with her Hindu boyfriend, defying her Catholic parents’ wishes. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when a neighbour’s rooster, meant for a church festival, disrupts her day. What follows is a mix of emotional, personal, and spiritual challenges, all playing out over the course of a single day.

Ajith had undergone three major surgeries early in his career due to which he was in bed rest for 1.5 years. Mostly recently in 2024, a minor medical procedure to treat a swollen nerve connecting his ear to the brain (not a brain surgery.

"The actor's criminality -slander, libel, gaslighting society and grooming his fans for violence and contemptible lies designed to promote unforgivable attacks on my dignity, integrity, sanity, and safety made me spiral into despair, making me want to commit suicide," the former actress added.

Mythri Movie Makers Reply To Ilayaraaja's Copyright Infringement Notice

Talking to BVS Prakash of Deccan Chronicle, Ravi Shankar Yellamanchili has said that they have not yet received any official communication from Ilaiyaraaja. "We have not received any notice from Ilaiyaraaja garu yet. We have great respect for his musical genius, and once we receive the notice, our legal team will handle the matter," he stated.

Yellamanchili further stated that all necessary permission were followed before using the songs. “We adhered to all the rules. We approached the relevant music companies, paid for the rights, and even obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before including the songs in the film,” he added, asserting that no rules had been violated.

The legal notice sent to producers stated that the three songs have been “used, altered, and commercially exploited” in the film, “without obtaining express consent/permission of our Client and/or his authorisation, and without payment of royalties that he is statutorily entitled to.”

Such actions constitute unauthorised use, appropriation and a clear infringement of our Client’s copyright and moral rights. You may also please take note that he has never accorded any permission or consent, either express or implied, for using/altering/distorting/changing the form of the musical work that has been used in the cinematograph,” it read.

Meanwhile, Good Bad Ugly has now become third highest-grossing film of Ajith's career globally, and has already emerged as the top Tamil film of the year, surpassing Ashwath Marimuthu's Dragon.

Good Bad Ugly collected around Rs 170 crore gross in five days, which is more than what Dragon(Rs 152 crore gross) collected in its lifetime.

Good Bad Ugly also stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Sunil, Priya Prakash Varrier, among others, in key roles.

The Atlee – Allu Arjun project is not what was told to Salman Khan. We hear that Allu Arjun was told a subject which is one hero film and it was kept pending as there was issues over payment- profit sharing with Sun Pictures. Salman Khan project needed another hero and as prices were high for South heroes, the project was shelved. Salman himself has said about it and it can be revived later. The current project has only AA and it is not a reincarnation subject. The story moves simultaneously in two  universes.

Karthikeya plays Ajith's son in Good Bad Ugly / Perusu Hindi remake/ Docufilm on Raghuvaran

Tamil film Perusu ( Pedha in Telugu) currently in theatres is to be remade in Hindi. Perusu is a remake of Sri Lankan film Tentigo released in 2023 is produced by by Hiranya Perera and the indie powerhouse Crawling Angel Films (known for Girls Will Be Girls, Once Again, and Nimtoh), was a standout at the festival. True Story Films will team up with Crawling Angel Films, with the latter duo of Sanjay Gulati and Neeraj Pandey co-producing the Hindi adaptation. Three-time Filmfare winner Karan Vyas, known for his work on Scam 1992, Scam 2003, Scoop, and Saas Bahu aur Flamingo, will adapt the comedy into Hindi. Perusu is a Tamil Comedy film directed by Ilango Ramanathan. The film is produced by Harman Baweja, Sasi Naga, Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Karthik Subbaraj under the banner of Baweja Studios, Emberlight Studios, Stone Bench Films. The film’s cinematography is handled by Sathya Thilakam. The estmated budget of the film is 4 crore. 7days after release the theatrical collection is Rs 3.5 crores.

Shankae says ED attachment legal abuse / Vidamuyurchi gives Rs 15 cr profit to Lyca : see breakup

Director Shankar {ress Release in full I wish to bring to public attention a recent action taken by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Chennai Zonal Office, in which they have provisionally attached three immovable properties of mine, based on baseless plagiarism allegations related to the film Enthiran (Robot). Till date, there is no communication from the Enforcement Directorate regarding the attachment, but the attachment was widely circulated in Media. This action not only misinterprets the legal facts but also represents a clear misuse of the legal process. It is crucial to highlight that the matter concerning these allegations was already thoroughly adjudicated by the Hon'ble High Court in Civil Suit No. 914/2010. The Court carefully examined the evidence and arguments from both sides, dismissing the claim filed by Aarur Tamil Nadan, which sought to declare him as the rightful copyright holder of the Enthiran story. Despite this clear judicial resolution, the Enforcement Directorate has proceeded with the attachment of my properties, relying on an independent report from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), and ignoring the binding judgment of the Hon'ble High Court in C.S.No.914/2010. Furthermore, the private complaint referred to by the Enforcement Directorate has already been stayed by the Hon'ble High Court, Chennai in the order passed in Crl.MP.No.13914/23 in Crl.Op.No.20452/23. Given these facts, I am deeply disheartened by the continued action of the ED, despite a clear legal ruling from the Civil Court, which categorically stated that no copyright violation took place. This overreach represents a blatant abuse of the legal process. I trust the authorities will review their actions and cease further proceedings in this matter. Ajith to rock with Simran in Good Bad Ugly / Keerthi Pandian back with Akenam

Ajith fans have a good news. The Valee jodi is coming back in Good Bad and Ugly. Yes Simran and Ajith in the film. Simran acted in two films with Ajith and second was Unnai kodu Ennai tharuven directed by Kavee Kalidas. It was a disaster. Actually Simran- Thalapathy made a great combo and has some good rollicking songs together. Already Trisha is the heroine and their last outing was Vidamuyurchi , a disaster. Though majority feel that it was not a bad film, the unnecessary divorce= extra martial portions took the sheen off the lead pair. The gut feeling is that GBU should cover up the VM disaster. April 10 is release date and next week comes the teaser. GVP songs magic has yet to take off. Ajith Kumar starrer is an expensive film with a budget of a whopping 185 crores. Compared to this cost, the film has earned only 69.80 crores, meaning only 37.72% of the total budget has been recovered so far. A huge amount of 115.20 crores is yet to be recovered. It’s clear that Vidaamuyarchi won’t recover its budget and face a box office deficit, thus ending its theatrical journey as a losing affair.
