Mythri Movie Makers Reply To Ilayaraaja's Copyright Infringement Notice

Talking to BVS Prakash of Deccan Chronicle, Ravi Shankar Yellamanchili has said that they have not yet received any official communication from Ilaiyaraaja. "We have not received any notice from Ilaiyaraaja garu yet. We have great respect for his musical genius, and once we receive the notice, our legal team will handle the matter," he stated.

Yellamanchili further stated that all necessary permission were followed before using the songs. “We adhered to all the rules. We approached the relevant music companies, paid for the rights, and even obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) before including the songs in the film,” he added, asserting that no rules had been violated.

The legal notice sent to producers stated that the three songs have been “used, altered, and commercially exploited” in the film, “without obtaining express consent/permission of our Client and/or his authorisation, and without payment of royalties that he is statutorily entitled to.”

Such actions constitute unauthorised use, appropriation and a clear infringement of our Client’s copyright and moral rights. You may also please take note that he has never accorded any permission or consent, either express or implied, for using/altering/distorting/changing the form of the musical work that has been used in the cinematograph,” it read.

Meanwhile, Good Bad Ugly has now become third highest-grossing film of Ajith's career globally, and has already emerged as the top Tamil film of the year, surpassing Ashwath Marimuthu's Dragon.

Good Bad Ugly collected around Rs 170 crore gross in five days, which is more than what Dragon(Rs 152 crore gross) collected in its lifetime.

Good Bad Ugly also stars Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Sunil, Priya Prakash Varrier, among others, in key roles.

Suriya’s upcoming film, Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, has garnered a good amount of hype among the actor’s fans and the regular audiences. The movie is just about two weeks away from its theatrical release, and Retro’s Censor Report is out now.

Music director Illaiyaraaja's video paying tribute to the late Actor-director Manobala has stirred up controversy among netizens due to his self-praise. The video starts with Illaiyaraaja mentioning Manobala's great respect for him and goes on to say that Manobala used to wait at the Kodambakkam bridge to catch his attention. He further claims that Manobala was one among many directors who waited there to get him to score music. This self-praise has not gone down well with many viewers who find it distasteful. Manobala, who had a YouTube channel called "Waste Paper," talked about his journey in films. In one such video, he spoke about directing the Tamil remake of the Hindi film "Khoon Bhari Maang." Initially hesitant to take up the project, Manobala was convinced by Radhika, who assured him that the screenplay would be modified to appeal to Tamil audiences and that the renowned writer Kalaignar (the DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi) would write the script. Despite initial reluctance, Kalaignar accepted the project, thanks to Radhika's persuasion, even though the film lacked political undertones. Manobala also mentioned that Radhika insisted that he not alter Karunanidhi's dialogues, even if they sounded outdated. The film starred Nizhalagal Ravi, Sarath Babu, Raadhika, and featured music by Illaiyaraaja but failed to perform well at the box office. Manobala further said that Karunanidhi had written on the side of dialogue sheet that it can be changed if needed. Manobala later joined AIADMK and was their star campaigner.

The movie "Jailer" is set to be released on August 10th in all languages. Carnatic Divas Ranjani and Gayatri sang a song for Illaiyaraaja for his composition in the film Maayoonae . It is the title track for te film and lyrics are by Raaja himself. One of the lines -"You accept the task of not correcting Theora and lie down without stopping the temple wealth from being looted ..!"
