Tamil film 'Angammal' has won Best Film at the 2025 edition of the New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF), Geetha Kailasam, who is renowned filmmaker K Balachander’s daughter-in-law, was the first choice for the role of Angammal. “We chose Geetha Kailasam after watching her performance in Navarasa, Sarpatta Parambarai and Natchathiram Nagargiradhu,” Director Radhakrishnan said. “She was very natural, and the screen presence she commanded was really impressive in all her above performances.”. Radhakrishnan’s second feature after the Malayalam-language Ave Maria (2018) is set in the mid-1990s. Angammal is based on acclaimed Tamil writer Perumal Murugan’s short story Kodithuni.

 Vipin Radhakrishnan's sophomore directorial venture follows a son's attempts at making his free spirited mother wear a blouse. Set against a rural backdrop in Tamil Nadu, the story does a pretty good job at establishing the dynamic between Angammal and Pavalam, the different life that her son wishes to lead and disgusted of the old ways in his village. Driven by the excuse of his girlfriend's family visit for an arranged love marriage proposal, the story mostly follows the rift that occurs between the mother and son as the former sticks on to what she desires to wear.

Meenakshi Jayan has won the Best Actress award in the Asian New Talent category at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) Golden Goblet Awards. She was honoured for her role in the Malayalam film Victoria, which was also the only Indian film selected for competition at this year’s festival, which concluded on Sunday. Directed by debutant Sivaranjini J, Victoria tells the story of a young beautician from Angamaly, a small town in Kerala, who is planning to run away with her Hindu boyfriend, defying her Catholic parents’ wishes. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when a neighbour’s rooster, meant for a church festival, disrupts her day. What follows is a mix of emotional, personal, and spiritual challenges, all playing out over the course of a single day.

Thalapathy to do cameo in Kaithi2 with Kamal / No Illaya Kamaraj says Thalapathy Vijay

 Latest on Kaithi 2 is that Thalapathy Vijay who has retired from films will don the makeup for Kaithi 2, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Part of LCU, the film brings in Vijay's Leo connections. The film is also the extension of the the charachter Roles by Suriya in  Vikram and that brings in Kamal Haasan. Read on :Kaithi 2 is a FACE-OFF between Dilli (Karthi) and Rolex (Suriya).

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President and actor Vijay appealed to students participating in the party's felicitation functions on Friday, June 13, to refrain from comparing him to the late Chief Minister K Kamaraj or discussing the 2026 assembly elections.

At one such event organised on Friday, June 13, Vijay honoured Class 10 and Class 12 students who secured top ranks in their respective schools across Tamil Nadu, according to the report by The New Indian Express.

During his address, he requested the students' participants to avoid political references and refrain from using terms like "Ilaiya Kamaraj (Little Kamaraj)" to refer to him.

Before the event began, attendees observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday. "This is a small request, please don't take it the wrong way. Let's keep the speeches a bit brief and avoid political references. Please refrain from speaking about the 2026 elections, or mentioning leaders like Kamaraj or Ilaya Kamaraj. Instead, talk about your teachers, your school, or any other subject of your choice," he said.

Vijay's remarks appeared to be a response to recent controversies. Certain groups and caste-based organisations opposed to students comparing Vijay with Kamaraj at a recent event, as per the report by The New Indian Express.

At Friday's event, approximately 300 meritorious students from 32 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 19 in Puducherry were presented with cash prizes and merit certificates.

Lokesh to Repeat Leo Record with Coolie / Thalapathy could not folllow Kamal's advice

Why Lokesh Kanagaraj will repeat Leo success with Coolie and Rajinikanth ?  Released in 2023, Leo marked the reunion of Lokesh Kanagaraj and Thalapathy Vijay after Master. With crazy hype on the ground, the film clocked a superb 66 crore net at the Indian box office on day 1.  This figure was possible after Leo clocked high figures in two Telugu States as well as in Kerala and Karnataka. Empuran and Veera Dheera sooran, both released on OTT. Now both these films need an OTT success badly and reason being that they need to go for a sequel. Empuran did well in Kerala but not in other languages including Hindi. Empuran makers announced that third part will only complete the trilogy and if is a hit in OTT, it would give an intial bost to third part. Hindi version will release only 4 weeks later as per Multiplex owners condition in North India.

Vikram starrer is an average hit but not as big as it was expected. Here the makers released the second part and has to come with first part. If OTT version clicks all over South and also among those who have not seen it, the first part will get some expectation when released

Fahadh Faasil is said to have joined the Kerala schedule of Jailer 3 starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson. Mohanlal was part of te first part but whether he is part of the sequel we are not sure. Fahadh plays a negative role. Fahadh was part of Vettaiyan. Shivarajkumar has been confirmed and Balakrishna is sounded for a cameo. It is also learned that Jailer 2 will retain the prominent cast of Jailer. SJ Suryah is also said to be playing a crucial role in the film. Ramyakrishnan was seen at Kerala schedules. The film is currently slated for release during the summer season of 2026.

Karate Champ who named Pawan Kalyan is no more - RIP

Popular Karate expert and film actor Shihan Hussaini who is known for his lively personality has passed away following his battle with leukemia. The news comes as big heartbreak for his fans and followers for prayed for his speedy recovery. Shihan, is known for coaching popular actors Pawan Kalyan and Vijay for their respective films. he actor died after battling leukemia, a cancer of the blood-forming tissues, the bone marrow and lymphatic system. A personality with a never-give-up attitude, Shihan, became a popular individual amongst Tamilians, after his karate school ads were pasted across walls in Chennai, and his quirky cooking shows grabbed their attention. Although fans were hopeful to see him recover, Shihan addressed the status of his ill health and said he doesn't have too many days to live. He has passed away at the age of 60 - within 22 days of his cancer diagnosis. Shihan made his acting debut in the iconic film Punnagai Mannan directed by K. Balachander, and later gained recognition for playing a coach in Vijay's Badri. He also worked with Rajinikanth in the Hollywood movie Bloodstone. Beyond cinema, Hussaini is an archery coach, who has trained over 400 archers from India. Shihan's last wishes to actors Vijay and Pawan Kalyan

Talking about his last wish, he requested Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan to fulfil it. He said "I named him Pawan, and I believe he will hear my words. I hope he will buy the center and continue its operations. He has reached great heights and is now a Deputy Chief Minister, but I remember him from the days when he trained under me, cleaned the center, and served me tea." Last week the Tamil Nadu government gave financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh. Is Atlee reworking Thevar Magan for Salman ? / Pushpa 2 paid tax for Rs 683 cr only / Thug Life v/s Jan nayagan abroad

Could this be the reason that Kamal Haasan and Chiranjeevi said no to Director Atlee’s Hindi film with Salman Khan ?. The plot is reworking of Bharathan’s Thevar Magan. In case you don’t remember – Aged father lives in his village looking after lands, a feudal Lord. Now son comes from abroad with a GF in tow. He wants to bring reforms in caste politics especially. GF goes back and son beomes hubby to village lass by default. For Hindi wallahs look up Virasaat (1997). This has been given a makeover. The catch is that South hero plays Father role and also his age. Here he sort of a Godfather kind guy but a rustic one. Insiders say that Salman who had seen Virasaat was excited . Story was pitched to Kamal ( original story is Kamal) and expected happened. Now it was Chiru’s turn. Here it seems it sounded like Jilla of Vijay- Mohanlal. But Chiru found it close to Seetharamaraju. Now will Rajinikanth bite the reworked script ? Kamal had at that time used a software called Movie Magic to write the screenplay. Taxes by Pushpa 2 Producers have been paid for Rs 282 crore as collections from Andhra and Telangana The claimed amount was Rs 380 crores. Including areas where it distributed through third party the amount claimed was Rs 831 crores and producers paid for Rs 612 crores. Rs 219 crores was overinflated claim. In Andhra/ TS the actual amount and claimed amount differed by Rs 98 crores. The total amount of Rs 1700 crores including overseas now seems to be over inflated by a great margin. With Rs 219 crore less from outside AP/TS and Rs 98 crore from two Telugu States, the shortfall in India collection is Rs 317 crores. So who is give actuals from overseas ?. A reasonable Rs 1200 crores would be great. Tax men who checked online booking windows felt that Producers were undercutting returns but now find that Producers were telling the truth or rather close to truth.

SRK says Nayanthara is awesome - Big Directors rejected Thalapathy - Modern Love Chennai

He disclosed that Bharathiraja, in particular, refused to direct a film with Vijay, and even earlier, when Chandrasekhar himself was aspiring to become a director, he was turned away by Bharathiraja. Instead, he ended up directing movies himself. Chandrasekhar also mentioned that he approached Gautham Menon for a project with Vijay, but that didn't pan out either. Despite these initial rejections, Chandrasekhar expressed gratitude that he was the one who launched Vijay's acting career through his directorial debut.
