'Angammal' has won Best Film at the 2025 edition of the New York Indian Film
Festival (NYIFF), Geetha Kailasam, who is renowned
filmmaker K Balachander’s daughter-in-law, was the first choice for the role of
Angammal. “We chose Geetha Kailasam after watching her performance in Navarasa, Sarpatta
Parambarai and Natchathiram Nagargiradhu,” Director Radhakrishnan
said. “She was very natural, and the screen presence she commanded was really
impressive in all her above performances.”. Radhakrishnan’s second feature
after the Malayalam-language Ave Maria (2018) is set in the
mid-1990s. Angammal is based on acclaimed Tamil writer Perumal

Vipin Radhakrishnan's sophomore directorial

different life that her son wishes to lead and disgusted of the old ways in his

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President and actor Vijay appealed to students participating in the party's felicitation functions on Friday, June 13, to refrain from comparing him to the late Chief Minister K Kamaraj or discussing the 2026 assembly elections.
At one such event organised on Friday, June 13, Vijay honoured Class 10 and Class 12 students who secured top ranks in their respective schools across Tamil Nadu, according to the report by The New Indian Express.
During his address, he requested the students' participants to avoid political references and refrain from using terms like "Ilaiya Kamaraj (Little Kamaraj)" to refer to him.
Before the event began, attendees observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Air India flight crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday. "This is a small request, please don't take it the wrong way. Let's keep the speeches a bit brief and avoid political references. Please refrain from speaking about the 2026 elections, or mentioning leaders like Kamaraj or Ilaya Kamaraj. Instead, talk about your teachers, your school, or any other subject of your choice," he said.
Vijay's remarks appeared to be a response to recent controversies. Certain groups and caste-based organisations opposed to students comparing Vijay with Kamaraj at a recent event, as per the report by The New Indian Express.
At Friday's event, approximately 300 meritorious students from 32 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 19 in Puducherry were presented with cash prizes and merit certificates.

Veera Dheera sooran, both released on OTT. Now both these films need an OTT success
badly and reason being that they need to go for a sequel. Empuran did well in Kerala
but not in other languages including Hindi. Empuran makers announced that third
part will only complete the trilogy and if is a hit in OTT, it would give an
intial bost to third part. Hindi version will release only 4 weeks later as per
Multiplex owners condition in North India.
Vikram starrer is an average hit but not as big as it was expected. Here the makers released the second part and has to come with first part. If OTT version clicks all over South and also among those who have not seen it, the first part will get some expectation when released
Fahadh Faasil is said to have joined the Kerala
schedule of Jailer 3 starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson. Mohanlal was
part of te first part but whether he is part of the sequel we are not sure.
Fahadh plays a negative role. Fahadh was part of Vettaiyan. Shivarajkumar has
been confirmed and Balakrishna is sounded for a cameo. It is also learned that Jailer 2 will
retain the prominent
cast of Jailer. SJ Suryah is also said to be playing a crucial role in the
film. Ramyakrishnan was seen at Kerala schedules. The
film is currently slated for release during the summer season of 2026.
