As it happens with most massive star vehicles, Pawan Kalyan-starrer They Call Him OG witnessed a huge drop in its day 2 collections at domestic box office, after taking a thunderous start on Thursday, September 25. 

According to Sacnilk.com, OG garnered Rs 19.25 crore (nett) on Friday, witnessing a 70 per cent drop from its Thursday figures which stood at Rs 63.75 crore. Vijay’s Kushi re-release fails to attract audiences.  Surprisingly is  film Khushi is that has been least telecast on TV and after the massive crowds gathering at TVK meet of Vijay, the film should have been a blockbuster but it is not the case. Third reason is that Ghilli re-released last year was a hit but in one year the audience coming for a re- release of Vijay film has changed.

Vijay’s old blockbuster, Ghilli (Okkadu remake), was re-released last year and created a sensation and collected huge numbers at the box office. The film opened with 4.3 Cr gross in Tamil Nadu and collected around 25 Cr gross, with a worldwide closing gross of over 30 Cr.

Producer AM Ratnam, currently facing financial difficulties, had high hopes that the re-release of Vijay’s Kushi would perform significantly better and offer much-needed relief. But surprisingly, the film did not see many numbers. In Tamil Nadu it opened with just close to 1 Cr gross, and the weekend bookings are also not that great. The film is nowhere near Ghilli Numbers, and it may not even cross Ghilli’s opening day in its full run. Vijay worked on Kushi simultaneously while also filming Fazil's Kannukkul Nilavu. Don't get shocked if Idly Kadai does 100 crores in Tamil Nadu

 Idli Kadai trailor reminded me of the Malayalam film Usstad Hotel with Dulquer and Thilakan in main roles. Releasing on October1.

Positives:

• Dhanush is wonderful as Murugan, not just with his look changes, but with his crumbling innocence and classiness that offer warmth. He looks brilliant in the “angry shot.”
• The casting and predicted characterizations are well-derived and mostly superb on screen. Arun Vijay, as the rich and spoiled antagonist, is striking. Rajkiran is a terrific choice and stands out. Shalini Pandey is a great pick, while Sathyaraj seems a little disappointing, though not necessarily bad.
• Dhanush the director looks solid, and the making appears apt for the subject. It’s a great genre shift from his previous works and feels emotionally sound.
• The cinematography is excellent, radiating that earthy rural vibe of simple living, idli stalls, struggle, and charm. The contrast between hand grinding and machinery is well-pictured, and the transformation from a village backdrop to a more corporate one is neatly done. Other production qualities are good too.
• The concept and ideas that Idli Kadai brings to the table are vintage but nice: legacy vs profit, ethics vs convenience, and family vs ambition. A simple and relatable conflict, which hints at peculiar yet familiar dramas.

Negatives:

• The story feels extremely template-like and predictable as a whole from watching the trailer. Nothing quite original to witness so far.
• GV Prakash’s music, despite his past success with Dhanush, is severely underwhelming here. There’s no sense of originality, and it feels like an “input-output” job.
• Their combination may have greatly worked in Thiruchitrambalam, but here the chemistry between Dhanush and Nithya Menen doesn’t sit right. She seems too old for his character, and the pairing feels tired and forced. Maybe it will click in theaters.
• The trailer cut could have been sharper and more engaging. It is presented like a saga, but I’m not sure if the film will carry that seriousness based on this glimpse. The dynamics aren’t quite clear either, which does spark some interest.

• Final Thoughts:

  Overall, this is a decent trailer from Mr. D & Co. More than the story, the focus seems to be on lingering emotional connect, which may or may not work in the final cut.

Mammootty in Hyderabad on Oct 1 / Tanushree Dutta slams BiggBoss bed sharing

Mamootty will report for shooting in Hyderabad on October 3 for Patriot which is produced by him and directed by Mahesh Naryanan. The actor has been away from camera glare for six months. Post treatment in Apollo Chennai, he was resting at Chennai home. The Hyderabad schedule is for two months and followed by that the unit will move to London. Bollywood noted cinematographer Mahesh Nandan cranks the camera. Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, Fahadh Faazil and Nayanthara are other actors.

Next year Mammooty will join Jeethu Joseph film which is a horror thriller and a film with Falimy fame Nitish. Upcoming release is Kalamkaval an action crime thriller film directed by debutant Jithin K. Jose. It is produced by Mammootty Kampany. The film stars Mammootty, Vinayakan and Meera Jasmine in the lead roles with Gibin Gopinath, Gayatri Arun, and Rajisha Vijayan in supporting roles.

At first Mammooty was take part in Kochi shoot in September but it was postponed. Shooting in Kochi would be a problem as fans would converge on the spot. Mammootty will reach Hyderabad on October1. Mammooty’s brother Ibrahim had come to Chennai to see the actor.
