Dhanush Idly Kadai sales dips as Kantara Roars

Dhanush for second time is facing opposition from a strong rival= Rishab Shetty Kantara Chapter 1. A centres mainly multiplexes in Tamil Nadu are seen more screens being added to Kantara and Idly Kadai dropping. Single screens are holding out. In two Telufu States, Idly Kadai ( Kottu) is buried under Knatara rampagge Read on. Kantara Chapter 1 has opened to a strong response, and this is affecting the run of Dhanush’s Idli Kadai. Rishab Shetty returned with the prequel to his blockbuster Kantara, and the film released in theatres today. Viewers who watched Kantara Chapter 1 are giving positive feedback. This is driving a surge in ticket bookings across India, making it one of the most talked-about releases this weekend. Meanwhile, Dhanush’s Idli Kadai, which released yesterday, is facing mixed reviews. The overwhelming reception for Kantara is pulling audiences away from Idli Kadai in several centres, including Tamil Nadu. Before the releases, trade trackers expected Idli Kadai to enjoy a smooth run during the long weekend. It was seen as a family drama with strong local appeal, especially in Tamil Nadu. But the trend is now shifting. Even though Idli Kadai secured a large screen count through Red Giant distribution, the buzz around Kantara suggests it could replace Idli Kadai in A centres after the first weekend. This shift has sparked discussion online. Many recall that Dhanush’s earlier directorial Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK) struggled when Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon clashed with it. Now, history seems to be repeating with Kantara overshadowing Idli Kadai. Some Kollywood trackers argue otherwise. They feel Idli Kadai will still perform well in B and C centres, where its family drama theme connects strongly. According to them, only its A centre collections will feel the heat from Kantara. The coming days will reveal the real outcome. For now, Kantara Chapter 1 is enjoying strong momentum, while Idli Kadai is trying to hold its ground in Tamil Nadu’s box office battle. Franchise films like Baahubali 2, KGF 2, LCU film Leo, and Mohanlal’s Empuraan did very well at the Kerala box office, but Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 failed to meet expectations and became a big failure. Apart from Allu Arjun’s highly anticipated sequel, all the films listed above debuted with record-breaking numbers and achieved massive success over time in Kerala. Now Kantara Chapter 1 has also exceeded trade’s expectations, and despite not having much pre-release jump and multiple films running in theaters, it still sees a 6 Cr opening, which is one of the biggest openings in Kerala.

IDLY KADAI ; Worth a Watch / Suriya New Production house

IDLY KADAI

Non spoiler review:

First half was really good. Emotional and rural connect really worked. A couple of scenes involving the calf and idly shop worked brilliantly. Even the songs were very well woven into the film. Father-son-Idly Kadai bond was extremely moving. Interval setup was pakka for 2nd half.

Instead of building on the emotional drama the first half built, it moves into familiar hero vs villain territory. It gets generic but a few writing touches involving Parthiban’s character, villagers unity work well. Climax was a fun touch.

Overall, a pretty simple yet solid feel-good drama which slides into generic action territory but solid acting, music and production values enhance the film. A refreshing breath of air amidst all the loud action movies.

TL;DR: Brilliant first half but second half is a bit generic and repetitive and loses steam before picking up in pre climax and ends on a fun note

It looks like Suriya's 2D Entertainment Production House will be for works of his actor's daughter and probably Bollywood films, he will launch on Ayudha Puja Day a new production company and first will be Malayalam film Romancham fae Jithu directing him. Suriya plays a quirky cop and probably Nazirya for company.

Read on;

Kollywood actor Suriya’s last few films have failed to impress the audience and have ended up as commercial failures. The star is now acting in a movie directed by Venky Atluri, who recently delivered the superhit Lucky Baskhar. Apart from it, Suriya also has a film titled Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji, and it will be released next year.

Many are aware that Suriya owns a production house named ‘2D Entertainment.’ The latest buzz in Kollywood circles suggests that Suriya will soon launch a new banner, ‘Zhagaram.’ The National Award-winning actor has already agreed to do his 47th film with Aavesham director Jithu Madhavan.

Dadasaheb or Dadsahib ? Yesudas Kalaimamani with sishya Daughter

BiggBoss Season 7 Malayalam contestants when informed that Lalettan had received the Dadsaheb Phalke award had no clue about what it was all about, Many had heard about Mammootty’s Dadasahib film but not the award. JioHotstar that felicitated Lal the host of BB show played a AV which ends with the line yoimgest Indian to get this honour. Biju Chandran ex DD Director research has shown that actually Mohanlal and Prithviraj Kapoor are two reciepents who got award at age of 65. The first reciepent on wards atleast half a dozen of the winners are below 65. Now if the Lal line can be altered to youngest Keralite to get the award, it is not possible. Adoor Gopalkrishnan the first Keralite to get the homour was only 64.

We knew that Latha Mangeshkar was 60 when she got the award. Devika Rani who got the first award was 60. Other in 50=64 age group reciepents; Naushad, Satyajit Ray. Raj Kapoor were other who were less than 65 ( age of Lal) when they got Phalke award.

While we debate about Phalke award not going to Mammootty, Madhu and Kamal Haasan, a new person to join the list of complantants list is singer Sujatha Mohan's daughter Swetha.  Swetha who got the Tamil Nadu Government equivalent of a Phalke award called Kalaimamani says that each year her mother’s song is send to national jury and it gets rejected. Sujatha got her Kalaimamani four years back but her mentor the legendary Yesudas got it only this year. Yesudas who began his career in Chennai and settled down in the metro is now based in USA where his son lives. It would be a treat to see him share the stage with Swetha for Kalaimamani. Pro’s Diamond Babu and Nikil Murugan have this year got the honour.

Devi Mani veteran journalist who got the award says that free bus pass has yet to reach him. My friend Late Cinema Express Ramamiirthy got his honour during Karunanidhi period and it surprised us as he was a ardent Jayalalitha bhakt, Not many know that Krishnamoorthy of Soorya film and Arts Society based in Thriuvanthapuram is a recepent of this honour. Those who promote Tamil literature arts and culture can get this award. I remember the Consul of French Embassy addressing Film News Anandan as Mr Kalai – Ma- Mani. Anandan visting card had this title printed before his name. Vikram Prabhu son of actor Prabhu was a recipient this year.

According to Sacnilk.comOG garnered Rs 19.25 crore (nett) on Friday, witnessing a 70 per cent drop from its Thursday figures which stood at Rs 63.75 crore. AI Mode writeup on Lalettan Phalke Award / Vijay Film Flops

As social media has highlighted two mistakes in the acceptance speech of Mohanlal while receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke award. One was the poem that he recited and other is that he claimed to be youngest recipient of the honour. Lata Mangeshkar got the honour at age of 60. Now the popular theory is it was translated by CharGPT and YT videos showed what AI generated Kumaran Asan poem comes out. Taking a cue from this I have given an artile on this subject generated by AI mode, Disclaimer comes at end. Lal could have said this at speech end.

During his 2025 Dadasaheb Phalke Award acceptance speech, actor Mohanlal recited a poem he mistakenly attributed to legendary Malayalam poet Kumaran Asan. The incident sparked a debate on social media about the accuracy of his speech and highlighted the wider issue of misattributed quotes circulating online.

Controversy over Mohanlal's speech

  • The misattributed poem: In his speech, Mohanlal recited lines he claimed were from Asan's famous work, Veena Poovu (The Fallen Flower). The lines he quoted were, “Chithayil aazhnu poyathumallo, chitha manoharamaya poovith” (translated as: "This flower did not merely fall into the dust. It lived a life of beauty").
  • Scholarly and public reaction: Scholars and online users quickly pointed out that the recited lines do not appear in Kumaran Asan's original poem.
  • Potential real sources: Alternate theories were proposed for the poem's origin, with some suggesting the verse may belong to other poets like P. Bhaskaran or Changampuzha. Others noted a similar, though distinct, quote by Ayyappapanickar.
  • Debate over the speechwriter: The incident led to questions about who assisted Mohanlal with his speech for such a prestigious event.
  • Wider conversation: The mistake also renewed a public discussion about the prevalence of misattributed quotes and poems on social media platforms like WhatsApp.
  • About Kumaran Asan and Veena Poovu
  • Kumaran Asan: Also known as Mahakavi Kumaran Asan, he was a prominent Malayalam poet, philosopher, and social reformer in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is regarded as one of the three great poets of Kerala.
  • Veena Poovu (The Fallen Flower): Considered one of Kumaran Asan's most significant works, this 1907 poem is a philosophical work that contemplates the life cycle and death of a flower. It is seen as a turning point that began a new lyrical era in Malayalam literature.

Vijay’s Kushi re-release fails to attract audiences.  Surprisingly is  film Khushi is that has been least telecast on TV and after the massive crowds gathering at TVK meet of Vijay, the film should have been a blockbuster but it is not the case. Third reason is that Ghilli re-released last year was a hit but in one year the audience coming for a re- release of Vijay film has changed.

Vijay’s old blockbuster, Ghilli (Okkadu remake), was re-released last year and created a sensation and collected huge numbers at the box office. The film opened with 4.3 Cr gross in Tamil Nadu and collected around 25 Cr gross, with a worldwide closing gross of over 30 Cr.

Producer AM Ratnam, currently facing financial difficulties, had high hopes that the re-release of Vijay’s Kushi would perform significantly better and offer much-needed relief. But surprisingly, the film did not see many numbers. In Tamil Nadu it opened with just close to 1 Cr gross, and the weekend bookings are also not that great. The film is nowhere near Ghilli Numbers, and it may not even cross Ghilli’s opening day in its full run. Vijay worked on Kushi simultaneously while also filming Fazil's Kannukkul Nilavu. At the time, the film received underwhelming reviews and was also not commercially successful
