Aparna Guhan Shyam, one of the twin daughters of MS Guhan son of AVM Sarvanan, has filed a civil suit in the High Court asking for one-fifth of the share in the family properties. She has also sought an injunction which aims to restrain AVM Studios from competing with AVM Productions in the film business.Aparna claims that her father had developed a cold attitude towards her ever since she married a person from another caste.AVM has produced films featuring Superstar Rajinikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajkumar, SS Rajendran, Vyjayanthimala, Kamal Haasan and several others. Aparna, of the great granddaughters of the founder A.V. Meiyappan has insisted on partitioning the family properties.

Vijay Antony who had got the title Parasakthi from South Indian Film Chamber has questioned how Dawn Pictures the Producers of Sivakarthikeyan Parasakthi got it from Tamil film Producers Council. If the title is renewed by AVM, then South Indian Film Chamber would have asked him to get AVM permission but this did not happen ? So the title validity has lapsed and the AVM letter is just a publicity stunt ? Dawn Pictures even got censor certification for the Parasakthi teaser. Now will censors allow another film with same title from Chamber ?. A similar confusion arose over Jailer title. Sun registered the title in Tamil Film Producers council and a Malayalam film by same nam was registered with Kerala Film Chamber.
